Kay Lang - BLOK Managing Director

                  Picture
Occupation: Dance Development Officer Glasgow City Council
Owner:  Kay Klass Hip Hop and Street School of Dance
Managing Director: BLOK Dance Troupe and Dance and Fitness Academy Franchise
                  About  Kay...
I have danced since the age of 3   competing as a successful amateur dancer in various locations across Europe and specialising in many styles of dance, such as; Latin American, Disco Freestyle and Rock n’ Roll. I have studied sports coaching and sports development and achieved gym and aerobic instructor qualifications which I have used and developed throughout my dance and sport career.
After reaching my full potential as an amateur dancer I turned professional through the United Kingdom Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dance federation (UKA) where I have continued to develop my knowledge and share my expertise in the field of dance. I am a qualified teacher in Latin American, Hip Hop and Street, Disco Freestyle, Salsa, Cheerleading and Rock n Roll. I started my own dance company Kay Klass Hip Hop and Street school of Dance 7 years ago after turning professional. Following the success of the dance school I founded BLOK Professional Dance Troupe. Over the last five years BLOK has gone from strength to strength performing at various events all over the UK including; Mobo Awards, Olympic Games Promotion (Cadburys Spots v Stripes), Rangers Charity Ball, Royal Marine events, Speedway, BBC Sports Relief, BBC Your Game, Children In Need, Common Wealth games Delhi hand over. BLOK have also performed for many club promoters and leading DJ's such as; Hed kandi, Guru Josh Project, Lasgo, Darren Styles, Clyde 1' s George Bowie, QFX, City night club events and many more.
My proudest moments as BLOK manager were during our TV appearances on BBC Three“Move Like Michael Jackson” and Channel Five “Don't Stop Believing”. After months of vigorous training we were delighted to be a part of these programmes and feel they demonstrated our hard work and dedication to dance. From this I have put many of the BLOK dancers through their professional qualification, which we have used to launch our Blok Dance and Fitness Franchise. As BLOK Managing Director the biggest contract I have secure over the last 4 years is Glasgow Rangers Football Club. BLOK appear regularly at home matches as Rangers Official Cheerleaders, entertaining the crowd pre-game and half time.
Personally as a professional dancer my proudest moments are taking part as a professional instructor and performer in Scottish Celebrity Strictly Come Dancing for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice. This is a charity close to my heart and I feel the work carried out for these events is extremely worthwhile and I intent to continue to support and perform at this event. I am also incredibly proud of being the only Scottish based Hip Hop Lecturer for the UKA and have lectured at all major professional conferences over the last four years.

                  About Nic...
I started dancing when I was 3years old taking classes in Ballet, Tap, Disco, Modern and Freestyle at Caroline Newlands and Stenhouse School of Dance. Here I took part in various shows in my home town of Falkirk. I later attended Kay Klass Hip Hop and Street School of Dance; this is where I first met Kay who invited me to audition for the newly formed Rangers Pro Dance Troupe. I never imagined that I would ever make it past the first stage of auditions and I can still remember my reaction when I made it into the squad!
I am proud to say that I have been a member of BLOK from the very beginning back when there were only 8 of us. Now I am a qualified Hip Hop and Street Dance teacher with the UKA. Dancing is a HUGE part of my life and I’m pretty sure I would be insane if I couldn’t dance with my girls! :o)
One of my proudest moments is performing with BLOK live on BBC Three's "Move Like Michael Jackson" and reaching the semi finals! As a HUGE MJ fan I loved every second and the fact that I can say I worked with MJ's choreographer Lavelle Smith Jnr still blows my mind! After "Move Like Michael Jackson" we also auditioned for Channel Five's "Don't Stop Believing" and again reached the semi finals! I think it's safe to say I caught the TV bug!!
Nine to five I am a Fitness Education Co-ordinator for Fitness Scotland and Scottish Gymnastics where I have been lucky enough to gain my Level 2 Fitness Instructor and Level 2 Water Based Exercise Instructor qualifications.
BLOK is part of who I am now and it is safe to say that I would not be the person I am today without being part of the BLOK family! SOLID AS A BLOK BABY!!

                  Occupation: Prison Officer
                  About Sammy...
I took up dancing at the age of 6, at my local dance school. I sat my BATD exams each year in Stage, Freestyle and Modern dance reaching Premier Award. Aged 18 I was employed to work as a dancer in nightclubs up and down the country. I was also employed by JD Sports to dance in stores as part of their advertising campaign and I was the warm up act for International Rap group "G-Unit" and Busta Rhymes. I auditioned for BLOK in 2007 and have never looked back! I have two honours degrees in Forensic Science and Forensic Psychobiology; therefore I do have other passions but can honestly say that nothing makes me happier than dance! Performing on the pitch at Ibrox gives a buzz like no other! Dancing at charity and sports events and taking workshops for kids gives me a huge sense of achievement. BLOK came together purely through a love of dance and I wouldn't like to imagine life without my dancing sisters. :-)

When I'm not dancing, you'll find me at boxing, in the gym, up the park with my headphones on walking my wee dog Bert, or lying curled up in bed with a cuppa and a good book!! Saying that, I am absolutely addicted to nightlife, having worked as a manager in bars for the last 10 years and I don't think I’ll ever grow out of it!! (Hot men, good banter and being allowed to dance the whole way through your shift....would you give it up?!)

                  About Cheryl...
I am a recruitment/talent spotter for a bank. I have been dancing since the age of 3 and attended The Stage School of Scotland where I did Panto and shows in Kings Theatre/Theatre Royal/Pavillion and Mitchell Theatre. I am a fully qualified dance teacher and opened my own school at the young age of 18. I am also registered with Colours Model Agency.
I attended the try outs for Rangers Pro Dance Squad 4 seasons ago and I was delighted to b asked to join BLOK quickly after. I have loved every minute of being the squad. We have so much fun and train really hard to ensure our standards are first class. My most memorable moments would most definitely need to be our TV appearances on Move Like Michael Jackson and Don't Stop Believing. Working with MJ's choreographers and meeting his brother was a once in a lifetime opportunity. Every event we do is different to the next and this is what makes BLOK so versatile. I still get the same excitement performing at Ibrox for Rangers than I did when I first joined.

I love every minute of being in BLOK - from the hard training sessions to the performances....and not to mention our squad nights out! (Not to mention and Sam’s crazy dancing!)
My most memorable moment has to be our first performance at Ibrox in front of 50,000 people. I can still feel the butterflies in my stomach when I think of it - the atmosphere was electric. BLOK do a variety of different events - from dance performances to fashion shows to bootcamps with the Royal Marines.
When I’m not dancing I enjoy shopping (a massive weak spot for shoes!) and going for dinner and cocktails with my friends. We love a night out - big heels and big hair!! My friends and family are a big part of my life, they've always been there for me throughout everything. However dancing is a big part of my life and so are the girls I dance with in the troupe. We are like a big BLOK family - always stick together.....solid as a BLOK!!

During the day I work as a commercial officer for a company in the defence industry....No dancing goes on there that's for sure! When I'm not at work or training hard with BLOK I enjoy going to the gym and doing other types of fitness training such as circuits, running and boxing. Hi everyone! My name is Lisa Roe and I come from Kilsyth. I have a 4 year old daughter, Rebecca and work part time for a financial advisers in Glasgow. I started gymnastics at Broadwood Gymnastics Academy when I was 6 years old, finished when I was 12 years old. Within this time I was also choose for my high schools gymnastics team. I then joined Kilsyth Starlets Cheerleaders because I have always loved dancing and wanted to make it my hobby. I competed with the Starlets for 2 years and became Junior Scottish Champions. I took a break from cheerleading but after a while I realised how much I missed dancing and joined another local cheerleading squad, JC PomPoms. I was with JC for 2 years and left because I wanted to pursue a more professional dancing career and went to Motherwell College to study dance. Unfortunately I was unable to carry this on as I needed to work. In August 2010 I heard that BLOK were holding auditions in September and went along to try out. I love the hip hop and street  style of dancing and BLOK was a whole new opportunity to learn a new style of dancing but at the same time carrying on cheerleading as this is also Rangers Cheerleading Squad. I was so happy when I got into BLOK!
Dancing is my passion and hobby. I love to dance but also love it for the fitness aspect and training twice a week keeps fitness up. I have got a lot out of joining BLOK and not only the dance experience but have met so many lovely people as well. We have fun but at same time everyone is passionate about dancing and that makes us SOLID AS A BLOK!!

Starting with that course enhanced my knowledge of dance, helped me improve my technique & taught me new styles such as contemporary & commercial jazz.
I am now currently studying HND Professional Stage Dance at Coatbridge College after successfully passing the previous course. I have danced in the Pavilion Theatre in Glasgow & danced at the opening of the International Children’s Games. I have an award in dance leadership and have previously taught at local dance schools. I enjoy gymnastics and have competed in this sport since I was 8years old. Getting into Blok is a massive achievement and I am thrilled to be part of the troupe. xxx

I have been involved in musical theatre performing with many children’s and adult theatre groups and have taken part in several shows including Annie, Oliver and Aladdin. From here I trained in professional ballet and performance jazz with Ballet West and performed in their Scottish tour of The Nutcracker.
Over the years I have attended many dance summer schools and assisted teaching dance at higher and advanced higher level in school and at my local dance school.
I auditioned for BLOK to try something different again and was thrilled to be accepted into the squad! I work as an Airhostess with Easyjet which I enjoy doing but being part of BLOK keeps my passion for dance alive and so far I am loving every minute of it!

I’m currently at Strathclyde University studying Business. I started highland dancing with Kelly Findlay Mackay at age 7. When I was 13 I took up Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Cheerleading and Hip Hop classes with Jan Trumble. I passed exams in all of these styles. I then got picked as part of a Highland Choreography group led by Kim Grant when I was 14 and when I was 16 I qualified as a Hip Hop and Street Dance teacher through the UKA. Since then I have taught many classes to various ages and levels. I have danced in many shows performing group dances as well as solos. When dancing as part of the highland choreography team - Standfast - we did many displays across the Highlands. Our ultimate display being on Sky Ones programme ‘Got To Dance’. Since a young age I have competed at many highland dancing competitions. I have also played parts such as Snow White where I had to sing and act. I’ve recently passed my Highland Dancing teachers exam through the UKA also.
I found out I made it through the BLOK auditions on my birthday, it was the best birthday present yet! I love training with BLOK and being part of such a talented and hard working troupe.
Very much look forward to the future…SOLID AS A BLOK!

I began dancing at the age of eight at a local cheerleading squad. This was where I began to compete and develop the hunger to achieve the best in dance. From there I attended other local dance schools to widen my knowledge in different styles in dance such as, ballet, modern, street, disco, and tap. When it came time to leave school, even though I had achieved my highers, I had my heart set on attending Dance College to pursue a career in dance. College introduced me to the technical side of dance through jazz, contemporary, ballet, and tap. It also added on more key skills to dance such as drama and stage makeup.
I am currently studying HNC Dance Artists at Reid Kerr college and I am proud to say that I am now part of a professional dance troupe BLOK. BLOK has provided great fitness levels and opportunities so far and plenty more great opportunities to come. Even though I am a 'newbie' just now, I could not feel any more welcome and a part of the family. I would recommend to everyone that has a great passion for dance to keep their eye on BLOK for any future auditions. It is a lifetime opportunity.

I began dancing at a relatively later stage at about 12 years old at Kay Klass Hip Hop School of Dance. I became part of my school dance team and through this, performed at many school shows and the Forth Valley Dance Competitions where we won first place for 5 years in a row! I’m now part of the CSU cheerleading squad at Stirling University where I study Professional Education with Business Studies. Still attending Kay Klass and gaining experience by helping out in the classes, I decided to audition for BLOK dance troupe. I was extremely excited when I received a place and couldn’t wait to begin the hard work! I was looking forward to learning new styles of dancing and performing at various events as well as being part of the Rangers Cheerleading Squad. Nothing makes me happier than dancing and BLOK is such a great dance troupe. All the girls are so talented and I’m so lucky to have the chance to develop in various styles of dance. I still get so excited for training sessions and can't wait to perform with such an amazing group of girls.

My mum was my dance teacher so I have been attending dance classes since the day I could walk. Through the years I have danced in the Royal Theatre, the Mitchell, the Pavillion, and the Tramway in pantos and shows and completed lots of work at council events.
When I turned 17 I became an associate of the B.A.T.D in Freestyle and am currently now a member of the B.A.T.D in Cheer and Freestyle and working towards my Stage and Highland teachers.
I trained in Ballet, Tap, Freestyle, Jazz, Cheerleading, Contemporary and Highland at Glasgow Dance Academy, Linda Lowery School of Ballet and Jazz Art UK.
I have always had a great passion for Hip Hop and Ballet strangely but I was also a very successful competitive Highland dancer coming 5th in the European Championships and placed 4th in the Worlds. Now I have gained my HNC dance artist at Telford college and am studying history at university. In my spare time I have my own Streetdance academy and teach around schools, nurseries and youth clubs. I also instruct Zumba, Spinfit and BodyJam classes for the council if I ever get the chance.
So, dance is basically my life and I love it, being accepted into BLOK and being able to say I am a professional dancer has made my dreams come true :) x

My passion and main goal in life, is to obtain a career in musical theatre!  I've been dancing since I was about 8 years old when I started my training at the Glasgow Academy of Musical Theatre Arts.  There I studied ballet, modern, jazz, tap, musical theatre, commercial, singing and acting.  I also performed as a cast member in many pantomimes in the S.E.C.C and summer shows in the Armadillo.
After about 6 years I decided it was time to move on, and I was then accepted into the Musical Theatre Masterclass course at the UK Theatre School.  There I studied many genres of dance, varying from 70's Disco to the Charleston! I also gained lead roles in performances such as Fame, We Will Rock You and played the Wicked Stepmother in the pantomime Cinderella, which was performed over the christmas period of 2010 in the S.E.C.C.
After completing the three year course, it was time to get a bit more serious and go to dance college, where I am currently studying my HNC Dance Artists at Reid Kerr College.
BLOK has became a massive part of my life.  Every training session is different and you discover that you can move in ways that you thought you couldn't!  Being pushed to our limits, and then some, gives us the opportunity to keep ourselves inspired and BUZZING to do more! Solid as a BLOK ♥

I have been dancing since the age of three, attending multiple dance schools and competing in competitions across Scotland in freestyle dance achieving my championship.I then went to Kay Klass when it first started out and had attended ever since, to me without Kay Klass I wouldn't have achieved as much.
Through Kay Klass I came out of my shell and found what made me happy. Dance is the most important thing to me; it's a major part of my life!
BLOK is such a great troupe to be a part of and feels like a little family, I love being a part of BLOK!
